Evolution

I'm watching Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs with the kids and I'm wondering if humans are slowly still evolving.

How about our bodies can handle bulk better now? Or develop better. Look at one of the greatest NBA stars of all time, Jerry West, then look at the build of an equal great like Michael Jordan. Jordan was a sculpted athlete but Jerry just looked like a skinny white boy playing amazing ball. Was it just because athletes these days hit the weights more than they did in the 70's? Might be a bad example. How about intelligence...

Are humans getting dumber? Are the kids graduating high school right now really less intelligent or do they just seem that way? There are exceptions obviously, but I see too many unmotivated, lazy, helpless, youth these days. Or is it just because parents these days just don't seems to care? Is it because parents don't want their kids to be raised in the same conservative, old school fashion that they were? If you spank your kids now, prepare for a visit from DCF.
So is it that we are evolving to a lazier form or that kids have too many rights?

Maybe our evolution is self created. As we ignore the warnings and contribute to Global Warming are we going to slowly change? Will we slowly develop more sweat glands? Will we start to have less hair? I know I already have less hair on my head but I've gained more on my ears.

One day we may have the same climate as Venus as the ozone layer breaks down, and future Earthlings will have to study what life was like before the Heat Age. I really hope my bones don't end up on display in a museum.

  1. I read someplace that the way humans are evolving, someday far in the future they will have smaller heads, because their brains won't have to be so large. All the world's knowledge will be put on a single computer chip and placed in a person's brain, allowing that individual instant access to any bit of knowledge he or she seeks.

  2. Didn't Eddie Vedder weigh in on Evolution, at some point?

  4. Kevin- As a matter of fact he has:
    Do the Evolution

    I'm ahead, I'm a man
I'm the first mammal to wear pants, yeah
I'm at peace with my lust
I can kill 'cause in God I trust, yeah
    It's evolution, baby

I'm at peace, I'm the man
Buying stocks on the day of the crash
On the loose, I'm a truck
All the rolling hills, I'll flatten 'em out, yeah
    It's herd behavior, uh huh
    It's evolution, baby

    Admire me, admire my home
Admire my son, he's my clone
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
This land is mine, this land is free
I'll do what I want but irresponsibly
    It's evolution, baby

    I'm a thief, I'm a liar
There's my church, I sing in the choir:
    (hallelujah, hallelujah)

    Admire me, admire my home
Admire my son, admire my clones
'Cause we know, appetite for a nightly feast
Those ignorant Indians got nothin' on me
    Nothin', why?
    Because... it's evolution, baby!

I am ahead, I am advanced
I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah
I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher
2010, watch it go to fire
    It's evolution, baby
    Do the evolution

  6. On the intelligence of the teens of this age: they are VERY intelligent...maybe more so than us. However, they lack common sense, a sense of decency, and humanity(although, that last bit may have been unfairly added). They have not been taught values/social mores or how to use common sense. As for the laziness, it depends on what you feel they are lazy about. Most of them have plenty of energy and enthusiasm about them but in different things than we have been used to...such as learning and beating video games, creating new things with computers, that sort of thing. Physically, they are not so 'in shape' as they used to be at a young age because our society has made it so very comfortable NOT to go outside and be active...air conditioning, microwaves, computer sports, etc...plus instead of being free to run the neighborhood and play with their friends 'whenever', they have to have PLAY DATES becuz our society became more perverted and little kids and teens were preyed upon by the depraved.

  7. Nancy- Have you ever heard the expression "college dumb"? People who are book smart but street stupid.

I feel many of them are lazy about working. I've seen far too many youth that have no work ethic at all, and keep in mind that I am only 31 years old.
I do allow my daughter who is 9 to run free in the neighborhood and when she wants to play with her friends she walks over to their home and knocks on the door "can Susie come out and play?" We also live in a condo complex that is not on a main road, so it is quieter and safer living. It is a horseshoe shaped complex and people actually look out for each other, which is rare these days.
