Supporting our troops doesn't end when the war does
How many people have seen or heard this scene?
I used to live in West Haven, CT and they have a VA, I used to see Vets wandering downtown all the time panhandling. Most people ignored them or crossed the street when they saw "crazies" coming at them.
Was giving them money just enabling their need for alcohol or drugs? Maybe. Should they just grow a pair and forget their troubles and rejoin society? Maybe.
Maybe some of them came home injured and didn't receive the benefits to cover their cost of living now that they were missing an arm, legs, eyes, or whatever.
Maybe some just couldn't handle what they saw in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan or wherever they were sent to. Either way, I'd rather give a Vet a few bucks, even if he will use it to buy some Jim Beam, because if someone wants that juice bad enough they will get it even if they have to beg, borrow or steal.
Support our troops, in battle and after.
